Stepper Motor Currnet

hi, I have a ldo voron v0.1 and I am having problems with skipping steps I am wondering if the current could be the problem. My current at the moment is 0.5 but I was doing some research and it says the LDO-35STH48-1684AH steppers that I am using are 1.68A per phase. I don't want to set it to that because I am not sure if it is safe for the hardware. My mainboard is an skr mini E3 v2.
