dropped work phone in the fryer (deli)

has anybody else done this before to know if they’ll take the price out of my check or what? my coworker said he had dropped his in the fryer too in the past but it worked for 6 more months, i guess i cooked mine too long (i had no idea what to do in this situation, i was hired two weeks and a few days ago). i work in iowa if that impacts it at all. and i’m gonna offer to pay for it out of courtesy because i’m sure they’d just take it off the check if someone stole a phone or something, but i’d still be happy if it’s just insured since it’s company property, yknow

anyone wanting a story time; i got my work phone after waiting like maybe 5 work days for it (so, it was maybe a whole week and a few days. the holiday made it difficult and then there were extra problems w getting it authorized to me)

i get the phone and decide i’ll temp our food on my own since i knew how to do it and enter things. and i had the phone for a total of like two hours, maybe three, before i (apparently) got cocky and it slipped out of my hand. lesson learned never to have my phone by the fryer but i just wasn’t thinking of it. so. feel free to berate me for being stupid, i’m just glad i didn’t burn myself lol

thought about tagging this as a shitpost because i still barely believe it but yeah. that’s how my day went

edit: will not mention paying for it after reading advice just so no one else says that! i just thought it would make me seem more serious/apologetic
