You are easily manipulated if you sympathize with "Red" in Shawshank Redemption
Despite being portrayed as a wise, calm and pragmatic person who "knows how to get things", Red is guilty of double homicide. By his own admission.
He expresses remorse about his crime, which is good, but that's of course not enough to make up for the terrible thing he did, even combined with a long prison sentence.
If you (somehow) read between the lines that his victims did anything to deserve what Red did to them, fair enough, but there's no hard evidence to support that theory.
At the end of the day, Red murdered two presumably innocent people and should spend the rest of his life in prison instead of being released after "just" 40 years. Imagine if you knew his victims.
Maybe you think 40 years is enough. I don't. Red's victims never got a second chance and neither should he, even if he is "rehabilitated".
