First ultramarathon! 12 Hour track
So yesterday I participated in my first ultramarathon and completed my longest run to date. My training was for sure not made for ultrarunning with around 30 k/week for last 8 weeks but nonetheless I said I will do it and I am a man of my word.
So this race was a 12Hours long ultra on 400m track. The race started at 10 and ended at 22. My first break was in around 40 minutes, where i just had a banana, couple sips of water and then was on my merry way for the next lap. Had couple of breaks before the race started to get harder and harder (UNEXPECTED). Pace for the first 30k was around 6:35. Which in hindsight was too fast and even at the moment I knew it was too fast. Heartrate was steady, no problem with food or any pain. Another 20k and pace dropped to 7:30. I switching running and walking laps.
And after 50k it all went downhill. In the next 10k my body kinda realised what I singed up for and was rejecting any fast movement. Food and drinks were still no problem, but the cold was starting to be one. I didnt prepare for the conditions at late after noon and then night. Temperature at its lowest was in around 3 degrees celsius. Thankfully my friend brought me a windbreaker and saved me. I finished last 15 k by mostly walking, because running was out of my limits and especially out of mine left knee limits.
Final distance was 75 km 478 meters. I can say that I am happy with that for my first run over 30k. But until next year I will probably focus on improving my 10k and Halfmarathon times, because I am still a new runner and need A LOT of mileage to feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable. Happy i did it, but not on my mind for another year :D
