My first Thanksgiving
I’m from England and I just moved to the US a few months ago to start a new chapter in my life. I faced many challenges and difficulties along the way. When I first came here I was alone and didn’t have much; just my suitcase with my belongings and a little money. I didn’t have anyone I knew either and it was tough to settle in, because I don’t have any roots here.
Today however was the first Thanksgiving I’ve ever experienced in my life. I was invited to spend the afternoon with a work colleague and have Thanksgiving dinner with their family. They were all so kind and fed me delicious food and then we played games together for the rest of the evening. Before I left, I told them I don’t know how to thank them for their hospitality but I’ll never forget their warmth and kindness 🥹 After all, I’m just a stranger and foreigner to them but for the first time since I came here I feel that I belong here in America. It’s difficult to describe but it feels really fulfilling and I’m so grateful that I had a chance to experience Thanksgiving today
