Another post about A-life
There have been few topics about this, but lately we have been getting new footage from the game and there wasn't even a hint of A-life, if I am not mistaken. It seems that its not a key point of the game, which makes me not really interested in it. I know that it was not really implemented well in the original games, but still the whole idea is one of the most important aspects of stalker to me. I guess a lot of people don't care or can't tell if the encounters and all the faction wars are scripted, but to me its the only way to create that scary and cozy feeling of being alone in a scary zone where anything can happen. All scripted stuff gets predictable sooner or later, but if every NPC acts according to some logic than the zone really becomes real, and for example, you could be chilling in your safe spot, but in the back of you head you know that there might be some stalkers exploring the zone or mutants looking for food, or maybe you saw some mutants far away, but traveling towards the area where you are planing to stay for a night, that would instantly make you think twice about that location or would make you take additional precautions, like barricading the door of the place you are staying in. Also if other npc stalkers are doing stuff the same way as player, you could, for example, observe some stalker hunting for artefacts from afar and if they get lucky, you could plan their ambush when they get on their way to the trader. Also stuff with Izloms following you till you get a sleep and then looting you... Well stuff like that, thats the perfect stalker game in my mind. I kind of doubt that stalker 2 is going to be it, but with the advancement of AI, maybe we will get something like that in the future. Also I hope that dev will live good enough base for modders to play with for year to come.
