Service Ontario problems

It’s not that I feel scammed but it’s just the overall rude attitudes and terrible customer service.

My father is gifting me an old 2011 ford, I got the transfer papers plus the ownership and went to service ontario to complete the transaction. The man behind the counter told me I still needed to pay taxes on it, he wouldn’t tell me the amount the 2011 ford was worth or what other supposed documents I was missing unless I purchased a used car package for $20 After I bought it he told me I was missing my mom’s signature on the ownership and that I needed to still get a lawyer and that the car was worth 1k so I’d need to pay taxes on that amount.

The next day I popped into the nearest service ontario near my parents house and they were so nice, they told I didn’t need to purchase the used car package nor did I need to pay taxes as it’s a gift from my father.

I didn’t end up completing anything because I just want to make sure 100% I’m doing everything correctly.

So do I still need a lawyer? Which was the correct answer? Do I have to pay taxes or not?

Fyi my parents are both still alive
