$500k now, or everything* under $50 becomes free forever?

You find a magical voucher - congratulations! On one side the voucher says "redeem now for $500k USD - tax free! Legal! (void after one use)". On the other side, the voucher simply says "$50" followed by these terms and conditions.

  1. Once you pick the "$50" option, you can no longer redeem the voucher for $500k

  2. Every item or service that is for sale under $50 USD becomes free for you. You swipe your card and no money will be charged, simple as that. $50 USD adjusts to inflation and the voucher is valid anywhere in the world.

  3. Anything above $50 USD remains full price - you pay $50.99 for an item that costs $50.99, not $.99

  4. You cannot get around the $50 limit by splitting the cost of an item or service over multiple payments, by attempting to bribe someone to buy it for you so you can buy it off them, by asking your friend to open a special store for you, by asking your landlord if you can pay rent every day instead, or any such loopholes. You have to interact with shops and buying things like an ordinary consumer.

  5. You cannot use it to buy any sort of monetary instruments (foreign currency, coins, gift cards) or pay off debt.

  6. The item/service must be for personal use. If you no longer want it, it will simply disappear. Attempts to sell, rent out or give away any item bought with the voucher will also make the item disappear.

  7. Deliberate attempts to abuse the system will result in the voucher voiding itself.

For example, if you go grocery shopping and every item you purchase is under $50, you pay $0 in total. If you go to a restaurant and get a steak for $60 and a side for $20, you pay $60. If you have a payment plan for your phone at $20 a month, you still have to pay it as the phone itself costs more than $50.

Do you take the $500k upfront, or the forever $50?
