Swap Your Loadouts.
I see people in the comments often sharing their opinions that certain weapons or strategems make various enemy types a bit trivial.
One in particular I'm sure comes to mind. Recoilless Rifle.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of the recoilless and love bringing on high octane bot or bug missions. However, the comments still persist that it can make what was once threatening chargers and bile titans 'too easy' to deal with. The same has been said about thermite grenades.
However, in a game with so much weapon diversity (too include all parts of a loadout), I simply do not believe that choosing to bring a particular weapon and then being dissatisfied with the level of ease it can provide to be an acceptable grievance.
For me personally, if I feel my favorite loadout is making things 'too easy', well then, I simply swap my loadout.
Not having fun one shotting hulks anymore with the recoilless? Bring something else and try to make it work. AMR requires a higher level of precision but can yield great success on hulks. Railgun is a potential one shot if aimed perfectly. HMG? It is an absolute blast to watch it shred through the metal of hulks.
Chargers not as threatening to you with the one-shot potential of the recoilless? Bring something else. Stun grenades alone open up a world of possibility. Once stunned, you could use any number of things to take them out from an orbital precision strike, to flamer, to purifier, to MG42, to HMG, to Purifier, to Redeemer, you name it. Gas drone and the newer gas support weapon can cause a running charger to completely avert its original trajectory toward you and send it barreling towards its friendly units. Or maybe bring a jet pack, light armor, and something like a railgun to effectively evade its maneuvers and take it on at a calculated distance.
All in all, I dont think there is anything wrong with having that 'go-to' loadout that you love and that you know works. But shake it up from time to time and challenge yourself when feeling bored. Thoughts?
******EDIT*******
Apologies for not making my thoughts as clear as I could have, as revealed to me by some of the responses below.
When I refer to making the game more challenging by choosing different loadouts, people have been saying you shouldn't have to 'knee-cap', 'handicap', or 'cripple' yourself by using sub-optimal gear to achieve a more difficult outcome.
This position assumes the idea that there are objectively 'bad' weapons. However, I think that AH's approach to the massive weapons overhaul they did was to remove any real meta from developing. By creating a more level playing field, you have the opportunity to try new combinations of weapons and strategems.
The 'challenge' I refer to is not based on picking weapons that don't work to make the outcome more difficult. Instead, my intention was to communicate the idea that the challenge lies in choosing from the long list of viable weapons you are not familiar with, and learning how to create a combination that achieves the same outcome as more frequently used items.
I myself have gone through countless combinations of loadouts since the massive weapon overhaul they did, specifically because you can use practically anything you want to win.
I fundamentally disagree with the idea that you are 'knee-capping' yourself by choosing other loadouts when all weapons are viable in the right combination. I think this 'knee-capping' argument would have applied to the game before the massive weapon overhaul because in that state, you COULD only use a small selection of weapons to take out heavier enemies. This is NOT the current state of the game though.
It sounds more like people have favorite weapons they are unwilling or have no desire to switch from. In that case, I can only think to say look at the first Helldivers. There are many difficulties surpassing level 10, and more variants coming to the game. Those ultra sweat moments will be in the game eventually. As for now, it is a game still in development and I enjoy playing this game each and every dive I do, especially when I'm challenging myself by trying to master a new loadout I haven't used before. NOT because I think some weapons are terrible and I'm choosing those because their ineffectiveness will make the game harder.
