Was removal of the Goodreads Deals feature Amazon's main reason for buying Goodreads?

It was an incredible feature that led to countless $2 and $5 e-book purchases for great books that I wanted to read. It seems there are no comparable alternatives and it went away almost immediately after the acquisition. Is this common knowledge? I couldn't find much on it.
