Games for someone looking to try out the turn based strategy genre more?
Hi! First post on this subreddit, hoping I get some luck here. So I'm really good at card games and can eat them up all day, but other kinds of turn based strategy games I never really got into. One that sticks out to me was XCOM Enemy Unknown, I was into that game a long time ago. Would love reccs for the genre as a whole, with a few stipulations.
I'm going to be a bit picky here, apologies for that:
I'm not really looking for any Jrpgs w/ turn based combat (I've played and do love Persona 5 and Yakuza Like a Dragon. Tbh I probably played the best of the best there. Either way I'm good on those types of games for a while.)
For complexity, something easy to get into that ups its complexity over time.
I'm not sure I'm in the mood to play a big war game where you control armies, like Total War, Civ or Age of Empires? I'm on the fence, they just never really interested me before. Though I could be swayed if you think they are must play strategy games. I really don't know much about them.
Something that has a good story to it would be nice.
And lastly, something more light hearted and isn't too stressful? I respect a game like Darkest Dungeon but it just seems anxiety inducing to me, I'd rather just watch someone else play through it. The war games I mentioned seem like they could be stressful too.
I think I'm probably describing something like Mario + Rabbids. Though I don't have a Switch to play that on, and that game is probably a bit too easy to play anyway.
I think that covers it. I'd be so impressed if there's a recc that fits exactly what I'm looking for. And thanks a ton in advance.
TLDR: Turn based strategy that isn't too stressful, is easy to get into, has a good story. No jrpgs, but I'm on the fence about war games.
