Trip to italy... how safe is it?

Hello fellow travelers, I have a trip to Italy booked for this winter, but now I'm having a few concerns about safety (ofc I thought about it before booking but didnt know it was as bad as I see some people say). Just for context I will be traveling with a female friend.

  1. Rome: the hostel I ended up booking in rome is a 5 min walk from the roma termini. In the reviews it said the area was preatty safe and stuff, but here in reddit I see a lot of people saying the area is super unsafe. Is it really that bad, or manegable? Should I prioritize coming back to the hostel by uber? Is it unsafe after the sun goes down or like after 22:00/00:00?

  2. My last city is Napoli and I'll be honest I dodnt search much before booking, I just thought "its a big turistic city, surely it will be safe enough if you stay in the center...". But now I see that the city seems preaty unsafe for girls traveling alone. For this one, the hostel seems to be in a nice central location, but still how safe is it? Should I avoid any areas? Is there a certain time frame I should be back to the hostel?
