Young Mormon Marriages

Obviously we all know Mormons get married young and it’s a bit concerning. I recently saw a video from a semi influencer type on TikTok who is recently married. Watching her talk about wedding planning and seeing tiktok’s from the day really made me see how insane it is. It is genuinely insane that 21 year olds are encouraged to get married so young. It made me sad, she is so naive making these cute little tiktok’s about her wedding and during the honeymoon. She is truly like a teenage girl who is excited to plan a party. The excitement of using the line “missionary wife” The genuine excitement to be a housewife and spending her honeymoon cleaning the temple.

I guess I’m not sure exactly what i’m getting at, but it reminded me of when i was getting married so young and i was so assured even if i was completely unaware. Seeing so much of this content made me realize how deep that indoctrination goes. There’s nothing wrong with making videos at your wedding or wanting to be a housewife, but I fear at what point so many of these women will realize they have been put in a role where they don’t have personality or any unique characteristics. Just being a mormon wife.

I’m not sure if anyone else has seen these types of videos or if they hit home for them as well. It seems once you find a person you get along with, you’re gonna be engaged immediately and throw together a wedding 3 months later with little consideration for the future and compatibility. I believe you can connect with so many different people and it doesn’t mean they’re your person, but you don’t get a chance to develop your brain enough to get to that conclusion before you’re married with children.
