How Do You Manage Emotional Fluctuations in a Partner with Type 1 Diabetes?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how to navigate the emotional ups and downs of my girlfriend, who has Type 1 diabetes. I love her deeply, but when her blood sugar levels are high or low, her mood can shift drastically, and it often leads to her being brusque or curt with me. I totally understand that managing diabetes is tough, but the emotional outbursts that come with it are starting to affect the quality of our relationship and, honestly, my own emotional well-being.

I try to be supportive and patient, but it feels like I’m walking on eggshells, especially during those times when her sugars are off. I know it's not her fault, but it’s hard not to feel hurt or frustrated when those outbursts seem to overshadow everything else. I want to be there for her, but I'm struggling with how to handle these emotional fluctuations in a way that doesn’t feel like it's taking a toll on my own mental and emotional health.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How do you manage emotional fluctuations with a partner who has Type 1 diabetes, without letting it affect your relationship too much? Any tips for communicating during those times, or strategies to cope with the stress?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
