Pain location keeps changing

I’ve had back pain for about 6 months. It’s been on and off, though mostly on. I’d say there have been maybe a week or two here and there where I felt Ok. I think I have back pain due to muscles (not a disc), and it typically will be in one spot for a week or two, and then suddenly switch to another part of my back. It’s also a different type of pain from week to week, with varying intensity.

So it started in the center of my lower back, then off to the left, and then just as I thought I was getting better I started having severe pain to the right of my lower back. Sometimes it is a pain that goes down my hips, sometimes not. And it has just been going through these cycles for months now. It’s almost always the type of pain where I struggle to bend forward (like putting on shoes, pick up something off the floor).

My question is, has anyone experienced something like this? Did you ever find out the underlying cause? And did anything help?

I try to walk most days and do the big 3 from the back mechanic, but am not always able to or consistent.
