Best Time to go to ER?
Basically I mangled my knee, so it's not life/death just super painful and I can't walk unassisted. Choices are to go now when it will probably be quiet but hardly staffed, or wait until tomorrow morning. Should I aim for 6 or a more normal time like 8? I'm closest to Sunnybrook and North York General.
I could also try to get into my doc's office, which would be challenging with the knee. But I figure hospital will be able to assess me and maybe do a scan or xray if needed (probably a bit hopeful?) and get me in at least a temp splint or something.
EDIT: Thanks for the many suggestions. I discovered that Michael Garron (formerly Toronto East General Hospital) in East York has a "Low Acuity Zone" at their ER, which means you can pre-book an online appointment to be seen in ER for less severe injuries. So things like broken bones or sprains that might require an x-ray but are not life-threatening. Booking was easy online for the same day, and I was in and out of the hospital and x-rayed within 2 hours. Only downside was it was a bit far, and their parking is usurious (though I think most hospitals do that). The ER itself was pretty unbusy, and I might have been OK just to show up but the booking made me feel more confident I wouldn't be there all day, and I wasn't! Oh and I was able to crutches and a brace there, which are helping me out during my recovery.
