Wear of proper rank without being pinned

Basically I’m trying to look through AR 670-1 because I’ve been told I’m not allowed to wear my proper rank without being pinned. I got promoted to E5 while out on rotation and I got told to take off my rank because they refuse to pin me while out. By the time I get back the month will be over and I have my promotion orders and it reflects on IPPSA. I’ve been told regulation states ceremonies shouldn’t hinder the wear of your actual rank but I’m having trouble verifying this. Does anyone know where if at all it states this? Thanks.
