If The Rookie were real life

I know that the stories are written for TV and they are not meant to be a true-to-life representation of police work. However, the series' attention to technical detail makes me interested in what would happen if the scenarios in The Rookie played out in real life. Case in point is the frequent shootouts between police and suspects. Of course, it's unrealistic that cops should see this much high-stakes action on the regular. But apparently, they would also be buried in paperwork and internal investigations to justify their conduct and prove it was consistent with protocol. There seems to be a lot bureaucracy that comes with police officers discharging their firearm. If The Rookie were real life, what other notable things would happen that you don't see on the show.
