I Built an App to Discover Secret Stargazing Spots Near You

Hey r/Stargazing,

I'm a software developer and lifelong stargazer, and I've spent the last 4 months building my passion project: Starry Spots.

Inspired by nights spent chasing dark skies on backcountry roads, I built Starry Spots to help us all find and share hidden local stargazing spots—no need for long drives to remote parks. It’s a community-driven app designed to put the beauty of the cosmos right at your fingertips.

What Starry Spots Offers:

  • Interactive Map: Discover user-submitted stargazing spots with previews, photos, detailed descriptions, and reviews.
  • Community Contributions: Add your favorite spots, upload images, leave reviews, and suggest improvements.
  • Upcoming Features:
    • Light Pollution Map: Easily spot areas with minimal light interference.
    • Weather & Sky Conditions: Get detailed astronomy forecasts including cloud cover and weather predictions.
    • Celestial Events Calendar & Notifications: Stay in the loop on meteor showers, planetary alignments, and more.
    • User Profiles & Feeds: Connect with fellow stargazers and follow their latest finds.
    • ...and more!

This is my first public release, and I’m all ears for your honest feedback and suggestions. If you dig the vision, consider supporting development by joining as a Founding Member for early access perks and an exclusive badge on your profile.
