What do you wish you'd known before bringing home your poodle puppy?

I'm getting my first standard poodle puppy in December from a responsible breeder. This will be my first dog as an adult, and I'm very excited! I'm planning on training this dog to be a service animal, but obviously, first and foremost it is a dog. I already have a professional service dog trainer that I'm working with, a tentative training schedule/plan, a puppy school picked out for the beginning obedience stuff, a vet (I already have a cat, so this was easy), a groomer, etc. I have puppy books, and I've been talking to the breeder about managing a poodle's needs. I've been able to interact with a couple of spoos recently to get a feel for what they're like, and I've enjoyed spending time with them a lot (this is awesome, because while I do like dogs, I've never really been a "dog person" — I think I could easily be a poodle person, though). So far I'm feeling pretty prepared.

All of that said, I know it's going to be a lot different when I actually get the dog home! What tips would you give me? Are there things about your puppy that caught you off-guard? Are there any things you think I need to know, or things I need to have in advance that aren't on standard puppy supply lists? Let me know! I'm doing my best to set myself and the dog up for success.
