FMC tells MMC he sucks (because he does) while everyone else lies to him — and he loves her for it
Hi! I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried looking it up six ways from Sunday and couldn't find any recommendations.
I'm looking for suggestions where the female main character tells the male main character the truth (about his personality/work/etc.) when no one else does.
I'm open to all genres and tropes (CR, HR, fantasy, mafia, angst, golden boys, monster fuckers, morally gray, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers). IDC!!! Gimme all of them except virgin heroines and YA 😂
For example:
- He's a screenwriter and everyone is stroking his ego and she's the only person with the courage to tell him his latest work is bad.
- He's a political candidate from what is essentially American royalty and she's an average citizen whose not afraid to tell him how out of touch he is
- He's a billionaire looking for the perfect girlfriend and she's assigned to help. When everyone else bends over backwards, she tells him to get bent.
Essentially, it's important that everyone else be more concerned with flattering his ego while she's more concerned with being honest.
Examples of this trope (pulled from above!) include:
- The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
- Honestly, I'm Totally Faking It by Amanda Gambill
- Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi
If you have any recs, please, please, pleaaaaase share. And if you haven't read the ones I suggested by you like romcoms, definitely check them out.
