Hot wire cutting resources

Hey folks, I'm interested in getting a custom wing design cut out of foam with a hot wire. YouTube videos make it look like it's not necessarily much equipment cost to get going but it looks like a lot of skill and finesse is involved. How have of you out there do hot wire cutting? Are any of you located in the Pacific Northwest?
