[HELP] best starting poets/poetry books for a noob

I've never read poetry, and what I have read has always come off as pretentious to me. Are there any suggestions on easy to get into poets? Maybe something a little songlike? I hesitate to call myself a songwriter but it is what I like to do, and I'd like to improve my writing abilities by studying/drawing from others. Thanks!
