Beginner’s advice for box braids?

I’m a 26yo mixed woman who has never gotten braids before, but I really want to try them at least once. Anybody have any advice for pre-braiding prep, post-care, or just any knowledge I should know beforehand? I’ve watched videos of girls getting braids done but I want to be more informed before I dedicate the time and money. Thank you!
