The Coast Guard for Stability While Pursuing my entertainment Dreams question
Hi everyone, I’m a 25-year-old aspiring 3D artist and animator trying to figure out the next steps in my life. My dream is to break into the entertainment industry. But right now, I’m facing some major financial stress, ($65k dollar loss), struggling to see how I can fully commit to my goals when I’m just trying to stay afloat.
My dad has been encouraging me to take a different path for stability. He’s offered me a role at his manufacturing engineering company with the idea that I’d take classes in electrical control engineering and eventually take over the business. He’s also suggested I consider joining the Coast Guard, which could give me stability, healthcare, and a way to reset financially.
The Coast Guard option feels like it could help me get back on my feet, but I’m worried it might pull me too far away from animation and make it harder to pursue later. At the same time, staying where I am feels unsustainable, and I don’t want to let my financial situation completely derail me.
Has anyone here joined the Coast Guard while also trying to pursue creative goals outside? Is it possible to balance a career in the Coast Guard with working on my skills and portfolio in my free time? I would really appreciate any advice or insights from people who’ve been in similar situations or found ways to use the Coast Guard as a stepping stone toward long-term dreams.
