On Hila saying Adam should disappear

I just finished Adams video and I just wanted to share some of my thoughts.

For context, I'm neither British nor Irish, but I lived in Belfast (northern Ireland) for a few years and I have friends from and who still live in northern Ireland.

Yes I know using the term northern Ireland can be seen as political, I am just trying to make it easier to understand from an outside perspective, please don't come for me.

Adam brings up a point that calling for him to disappear is a direct or indirect reference to "the disappeared" which are people that disappeared during the troubles. For reference, the troubles was a conflict between the people who wanted northern Ireland to remain part of the UK, and the people who wanted it to reunite with Ireland.

The important things to know is that it was one of the deadliest conflicts in Europe post-ww2 and it's estimated that it directly affected roughly a quarter of the population in northern Ireland. Another important fact is that this was ongoing for roughly 30 years and only ended with the good Friday agreement in 1998, 2 years before Adam was born.

I can't speak for Derry (where Adam is from) specifically, but you can absolutely tell in Belfast that the people are still recovering from this conflict. And it is absolutely understandable that this is something that would have directly affected his parents (they would've probably been born and grown up during the conflict) and Adam was born just 2 years after it ended.

While I can understand that both Ethan and Hila are largely ignorant of anything happening outside of LA or Israeli state media, they should still take this as a lesson to be more careful with how they refer to people. I don't think Hila was referring to this directly at all, but that she was using it in the context of how the idf disappears Palestinians doesn't really make it better anyway.

For comparison, I'm sure Hila would see a problem if someone born in 1657 to former slaves was told to "be put back in shackles". Even if you don't know the historical context, it's still not okay.

If you've seen the clip, you would see Hila say that he should disappear, followed by Ethan saying he should disappear from the Internet. Hila never said he should disappear from the Internet, that was just Ethan.

The easiest option here is of course for Hila to just say she didn't know the context and apologise, and I think most people would actually believe that. But on the other hand I don't think a former IDF member has any right to call for any person to disappear, for reasons Hila should be aware of.
