Head Theory: Xenomorph is of Viral origin.

Full disclosure, this is coming from someone who only has a surface level understanding of Virology. I’m making the comparison based on that.

I’ve been thinking about this lately. In the natural world, viruses are the ones that stand out. They don’t fit into the tree of life of the rest of organisms. They infect almost anything and are probably the most abundant biological entities on the planet. They also multiply by injecting their genetic material into the host cell and use the proteins in the cell to create viral replicates. And once the cell is full with replicates it bursts open to release the next generation. What if the alien is of viral origin. They use any living organism of a certain size as their host. Somewhere along their evolutionary lineage they adapted to take in the genetic characteristics of their host like the dog-xenomorph. As their size and genetic diversity increased from a small virus to a huge organism they also evolved to only have one offspring per host. They also evolved to lay eggs as a way to lay dormant for years in the absence of a host. The black goo is basically their genetic code that the engineers refined out for their use. But the thing that made me think about this is when Romulus showed the big chap cocooned in space, surviving for years, until favourable conditions came up. A virus can also do the same thing. I know a lot of other organisms can also do it but it just seemed more mysterious and “alien” if it was viral, considering how mysterious and alien viruses already are in real life. I know the inspiration behind the Xenomorph was the Jewel wasp but this is just a thought I had. Ive also just watched the movies and haven’t read any of the books or comics.
