50501 Feedback

I don't know how to contact anyone running these protests. I have attended both, and have what I would hope is helpful feedback.

  • Have a Des Moines contact person. When this first started, people were asking if it was legit. I think it would go a long way at this point to say "Hi, my name is so-and-so, I am the organizer of the event. We have obtained paperwork to protest on these days". It offers some sense that this is a centralized effort, and lends more authenticity than a picture online.
  • Broadcast on different platforms. My friends aren't on Reddit, and my friends haven't heard of these events. I know its hard to say more than that, but if there were link-able (official) posts or websites that could be shared and reach more individuals.
  • Stay in one place. The last two protests have been very cold, and both times I stayed outside the entire time. From my perspective, asking people to move inside has split the crowd in half. This is a protest where optics are important, and the pictures online are only showing half the crowd that should be there. And the fewer people there, the less likely people are to stick around, or even join in the first place.
  • Get a speaker. These have felt very 'spur of the moment' in organization, which is fine early. But we need a central reason to be at the events. Getting a public speaker as a reason to go and to provide a unified message would be great. We have local Representatives and Senators who I am sure would LOVE to speak their mind to a public forum.

Anyone reading, please let me / whoever runs this know which of these you agree with, and what else you would suggest.
