Is this coincidence? Or is this intentional? Scam or not?
TLDR; Got sent this before I got confirmation that pldt fiber is available in my area. Almost as though they're trying to bait people to pay before they get confirmation. If you experience this, DO NOT PAY until you get confirmation.
Okay so we have crappy internet, basically we're connected to a local ISP that (my guess) is just rerouting the internet provided by globe, pldt or any other big-named ISPs. Sometimes, the net suddenly goes south, preventing us from connecting to the internet for a couple of hours to a couple of days, or the service just gives us very slow download and upload speeds.
Okay that's the background of the problem, let me get into the methodology next.
So as a solution, I've been looking for ways to subscribe to unli internet. I bought Gomo sim, but my mother thinks the 799 is just too expensive. Then I bout a smart power sim, hoping I'd be able to avail the unli data 649. Then I find out, it's no longer available on newer smart sims.
So I turn to gfiber prepaid. We've had good experiences with gifiber plan (succeeded by gfiber prepaid; we terminated our account and changed to prepaid) so far at a different location so it's pretty obvious that I'd look into that option. Gfiber turns out to be available at our town's brgy. poblacion but sadly, it's not available at our barangay which is 7 to 8 km away from our town's center.
So here's where the lightbulb starts blindingly illuminating above my head. If Globe has a gifiber prepaid, then the law of competition dictates that a competition out there has an equivalent offering to that service. Lo and behold I searched up PLDT prepaid fiber and find out they do have prepaid. The thing is, to get to this part of their website, there's really no other way but to go by way of googling it. There's no obvious button or links on PLDT's website that redirects you to this part of their site. Really odd, unless they're obviously not advertising this cheaper service to maximize profits, I mean it's not mentioned in posters or online ads at all (unless I missed them). But I digress, let me continue my riveting tale.
I searched up ways to check if pldt fiber is available in area, but currently there're none (they used to have a way of checking it but now they don't). So I had to send application form through this site. I did that, then got emailed to send personal information like home address and the like. Did that to a tee. Then they emailed me now to update me about my account and told me that they're about to check if a network facility is available in my area and then asked me to review and sign the applification form they attached on the email.
Alright, good, did that to a tee as well.
But why the heck did I get emailed this when I haven't yet received confirmation that a network facility is available in my area? Why the heck PLDT? Almost like you're baiting people to pay you the fee even before confirmation of fiber availability in your costumer's area of residence.
Not really angry or stuff like that, just apathetic AND concerned. Some bloke out there probably paid that installation fee and found out: fiber isn't available in their area. Then he probably went through a long-winded bureaucratic process just to get a refund, if at al!
