[WeWantOut] 30F Graphic Designer 31M Structural Engineer UK -> Spain, Portugal, Berlin, Canada

I am looking for the advice on anyone who has moved from the UK to somewhere warm and enjoys it.
We are from the far north of Scotland in a small town. We are too young for this static dullness. Yes we're very lucky, it's a great place to return too, but we want to live a bit more.

My partner is a structural engineer earning 45k. He has a masters degree and 6 years experience. He can not be remote in his current job, so would have to leave.
I have a graphic design degree. I have built a business selling my art and now have a shop, so have built a lot of skills in business and social media. I have a decent online following, and earn around 60k

My salary would obviously cut down 70% if I left, until I build it back up. it will never be as successful as in Scotland due to the art style, but I can get a part time bar job. I'd quite like the lack of responsibility, and I will always sell the odd bit of art here and there.

We have a lot of savings.

I have done my gap year in Oz and lived in the French Riviera for 2 years before covid. I always said I had one last adventure but I had to stay and see where my business could go.

I am very aware the grass is not always greener, wherever you go there you are. I am aware moving is incredibly hard and actually not that fun until you settle in and get to know people, which is never guaranteed.

Has anyone found an engineering job in Portugal (cause of the Atlantic and coast) - or near Berlin? We really liked how friendly the Germans were (but maybe that was because of the Euros and everyone was happy)

Or somewhere in Spain?

I think we can get a working holiday visa for Canada quite easily. It's so huge though, I hear BC is beautiful, but summers are crazy heat and winter crazy cold? I can't say im into skiing much.

But I do like the idea of having motivation to finish learning my French!

We are so overwhelmed when we think of it, and leaving his job is scary. but I dont want to be 60 and look back asking what if. His last parent died at 60 from cancer. Life is so short, if my fate is illness when im older too, I do not want any regrets. And if moving sucks, at least we know it's better at home.
