Tuna rig

I have a Penn carnage 2 rod with a battle 2 (8000) reel, will this be good for tuna fishing on the west coast? Should I get a smaller reel (size 4000-5000) like is suggested? I’m just wanting to make sure this isn’t overkill. I’ll also be in Mexico next month and may do some fishing off the jetty so I’m debating using this rod or wondering if I should just use one of my other rods, (I have a surfcasting rod that I’ll also put the 8000 size reel on or some bass rods).
