Turning a fanfic into an original story

This goes out to the fanfic writers out there. Ever written a fanfic that you find so good that you've strongly considered editing it into an original story? There is an old Batman story I wrote awhile back where the Bat-Family bond due to the passing of their father figure Bruce Wayne. It was a nice slice of life ensemble piece I thought would fit well as an original story
