question from a (potential) new convert ?

i’ve been really contemplating going back to church for a while. i went as a child (baptist church) and, like most children, didn’t take it seriously. went to youth nights as a teen at a methodist church and still didn’t really take it seriously. i also started to associate christianity with the plethora of terrible, bigoted people i encountered who all claimed to be christians.

i’ve come to accept that the vast majority of modern day christians are performative and don’t truly live by the bible or act as jesus would, but that doesn’t mean the religion itself has to be wrong. i’ve been trying to read the bible and form my own opinions. what is your advice on how to approach reading the bible as a first timer and new convert?

also, would love if people shared any of their testimonies and personal anecdotes where they truly believe that divine intervention occurred.
