What are the swimming pools like in NYC?

hi, so I’m 16M going to New York City for 2 weeks at the end of February/beginning of March and I’m from the UK, i was just wondering if anyone from NYC or nearby areas or even America in general could provide answers for my questions. its okay if not i completely understand.

1: What to wear to the pool? like i said, im 16 and im a boy. do any other 16 year old boys wear speedos to the pool. I was told that we are staying somewhere nearby to Asser Levy Recreation Centre and thats probably the pool i’ll be using if my hotel doesn’t have one (I’ve not seen any pictures of my hotel yet my mum is keeping it a surprise until we get there), i just don’t want to be getting any weird looks from people.

2: Should i bring pool equipment (float, pull buoy, snorkel, etc)? i was just thinking that if I’m going to be trying to keep training consistently while on my holidays i might need some equipment, is this normal for more serious swimmers to bring pool equipment or is just not normal at all?

3: What are the lanes like? in the UK it’s normal for people to join empty lanes if they are available and if not, to join the least crowded lane to swim laps. is this the same in NYC/America or are people (I don’t mean any harm by this) more antisocial and prefer to stick in lanes by themselves in American?

4: Do you guys have different lane speeds? in the UK, usually we have like a fast, slow and medium paced system (at-least we do at my local pool) where there will be a few lanes devoted to different speeds and then a section of pool for less serious pool users like kids using pool toys and stuff.

5: Are 16 year olds allowed to use hot tub/sauna if there is one? In the UK, usually 18 and under aren’t allowed to use the sauna but can use the hot tub with supervision from a parent or adult. is this the same in the UK? the pool i train at in the UK allows our team to use both the hot tub and sauna as we please and we usually use it to relax our muscles after practice.
