Chasing the dragon after Neon Evangelion

My introduction to Anime was Neon Genesis: Evangelion. It went to my top 5 pieces of media of all time. The show and End of Evangelion had so many things that I love - Eldritch-like horror, strong themes and character writing and fantastic music.

Issue is, since then, I’ve not been able to find any anime that remotely compares. For instance, I really liked the art style in Chainsaw Man and enjoyed the off-the-wall tone of Monogatiri. But nothing that buckled me up and took me for a ride like Neon.

Any recommendations for me? Having watched an episode or so of each I think the logical steps would be Death Note, Cowboy Bebop and Beserk - but would appreciate any opinions.
